• Part of my work deals with the notion of self and identity . Probably due to the fact I was bullied when I was a kid, I tend to glorify or humanize people that may be considered as marginals, different, the ones that may be called "weird" or "misfits".
My "punk encounter" was quite decisive in the path I have decided to take in regards to my artistic vision.
I do have to admit it took me quite a few minutes to decide wether or not I would approach my subject (I felt quite intimidated by the way he looked) but I'm glad I did. He looked at first quite defensive when I approached him - maybe he expected me somehow to tell him to go away or something (he's probably used to it). I just said " wait! I think you look great and I want to make a beautiful portrait of you!" and then he stopped and with pride and dignity in his eyes he posed for me. Something happened, it just felt like we both dropped our defense mechanism and somehow connected. It just felt great.

People usually connect with this photograph and this is when I tell myself : mission accomplised.
