• Thousands of Americans cross the border every year in order to save a great deal of money buying prescription drugs. This is a major industry, and total sales to foreigners exceeds two hundred million dollars annually.

Many drugs that require a prescription in the U.S. can be bought over the counter in Mexico, such as antibiotics, anti-depresants, birth control pills and heart medications. Technically these drugs do require a presciption but the law is routinely ignored.

Self medication is however of public health concern because of the problem of drug misuse and abuse.

Being French and having free health care (well it's NOT completely free) or easy (controlled) access to medicine is not something I take for granted. I consider myself fortunate to have what I call this "basic humain right".

The fact that many US citizen can become homeless because of illness and can't afford proper medicine really gives me chills...
• Part of my work deals with the notion of self and identity . Probably due to the fact I was bullied when I was a kid, I tend to glorify or humanize people that may be considered as marginals, different, the ones that may be called "weird" or "misfits".
My "punk encounter" was quite decisive in the path I have decided to take in regards to my artistic vision.
I do have to admit it took me quite a few minutes to decide wether or not I would approach my subject (I felt quite intimidated by the way he looked) but I'm glad I did. He looked at first quite defensive when I approached him - maybe he expected me somehow to tell him to go away or something (he's probably used to it). I just said " wait! I think you look great and I want to make a beautiful portrait of you!" and then he stopped and with pride and dignity in his eyes he posed for me. Something happened, it just felt like we both dropped our defense mechanism and somehow connected. It just felt great.

People usually connect with this photograph and this is when I tell myself : mission accomplised.
